Description

Theo was a thoughtful wizard with kind eyes and the bearing of someone who always sought to do what was right, even when it was difficult. He dressed in simple but well-made robes and often carried a worn leather satchel filled with notes and correspondence. Those who knew him described him as having a gentle demeanor that masked a surprisingly strong moral conviction.

In his later years, worry lines deepened around his eyes as he watched his friend Seylon Vane spiral into dangerous obsession, torn between loyalty and ethics.

Personality

Theo was principled and cautious, believing strongly in the responsible use of magic. While he respected innovation and achievement, he drew firm lines at what should and should not be created. He valued friendship deeply but wasn't afraid to challenge those he cared about when he believed they were making dangerous choices.

He was a peacemaker by nature but could be surprisingly stubborn when moral principles were at stake. His disagreement with Seylon over the relics caused him genuine anguish—he wanted to support his friend but couldn't in good conscience endorse keeping such dangerous items in existence.

Background

Theo was a close friend and colleague of Seylon Vane during Seylon's time as a professor and master craftsman at Hogwarts in the early 1600s. When Seylon created his most powerful and dangerous magical relics, Theo urged him to destroy them, fearing they were too powerful and could corrupt anyone who wielded them.

Seylon refused, believing the items were too magnificent and valuable to unmake. As a compromise, Theo helped his friend design elaborate protections and hiding places for the relics, establishing Frostwell Village as guardians for one of them and helping create the safeguards within Seylon's Tower for another.

After Seylon's daughter Lyra died and his friend descended into obsessive resurrection research, Theo tried repeatedly to intervene, but ultimately could not pull Seylon back from the edge. In his later years, Theo wrote notes and warnings about the hidden relics, fearing they might one day be discovered by those with dark intentions.

Important plot points:
  • Theo died some time ago (need to determine when)
  • His notes have survived and some have been found by treasure hunters/researchers
  • The wizard the party found dead in Icespider Hollow had one of Theo's notes
  • Theo's warnings were prescient—the Death Eaters are now searching for the relics
  • Some of Theo's correspondence or journals might still exist in archives or private collections
  • When Seylon received a prophecy from an Eastern seer — that "one who speaks the serpent's tongue" would come to "complete what grief began" — Theo warned him it was a trap. He believed "completion" could mean destruction, not resurrection. Seylon ignored him and built the Serpent Shrine guardian anyway. Theo's margin note in Seylon's grimoire reads: "Theo says the prophecy is a trap. He says completion does not mean what I think it means."
