Oleg Mirnov

Description
Oleg Mirnov is a broad-shouldered man in his late forties with a weathered face framed by a thick black beard streaked with grey. His deep-set eyes are a piercing blue, always watchful and measuring those he meets. He wears heavy furs and wool, practical clothing for Frostwell Village's harsh climate, and carries himself with the quiet authority of a village elder.
Story
When Caoimhe Keelan, Finlay Figgins, Otto Noxley, and Callum Vane emerged from a portal into the frozen wilderness, they encountered Oleg gathering herbs. Though he saw through their lies about being separated from a field trip, he insisted they return to Frostwell Village to warm up.
Oleg spoke of an ancient prophecy and the Circle of Eight—obelisks his family had guarded for four hundred years. His daughter Katya protested his sudden willingness to share sacred secrets with strangers, but Oleg seemed convinced these children were the ones foretold.
The moment they solved the Circle's puzzle and descended into the ancient dungeon, Oleg revealed his true nature. He shouted "Petrificus Totalus," freezing Caoimhe and Finlay, then sprinted into the darkness with unnatural speed. In the Ring Chamber, he grabbed a floating ring and put it on—then writhed in agony as his form shifted uncontrollably through different faces. The ring slipped off a missing finger, and Oleg collapsed in an unfamiliar body before disapparating away.
The man who led them here was an imposter. What happened to the real Oleg—and who this shapeshifter truly is—remains a terrifying mystery.
Personality
Oleg is serious and duty-bound, taking his role as one of Frostwell Village's guardians with absolute gravity. He believes deeply in the prophecy and traditions passed down from his ancestors, though he struggles with not knowing the full truth of what they protect. This gap in knowledge troubles him, but his faith in the duty itself remains unshaken.
He is naturally suspicious of outsiders, especially young wizards who might be the "seeker" from the prophecy. However, beneath his stern exterior, Oleg is fundamentally good-hearted and will help those he deems worthy. He values courage, honesty, and respect for tradition.
Background
Oleg is descended from one of the original guardian families established by Seylon Vane to protect the hidden relic in the cave outside Frostwell Village. He grew up hearing stories of Seylon's blessing and the sacred duty of his bloodline, and he has taken this responsibility more seriously than perhaps any guardian in recent generations.
As one of the village's informal leaders, Oleg organizes the watch rotations at the cave entrance and teaches the younger generation about their heritage—even if that heritage is now more legend than fact. He knows the old words to pass the wards on the cave entrance and has memorized every line of the prophecy, though he has never seen what lies deep within.
