Description

Newton "Newt" Scamander is a famed magizoologist and the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a seminal textbook used at Hogwarts and wizarding schools around the world for generations.

Background

Newt dedicated his life to the study, documentation, and protection of magical creatures. He married Porpentina "Tina" Goldstein, an American witch and former Auror. Over the course of his long career, Newt made several landmark contributions to wizarding law and knowledge:

  • He was responsible for creating the Werewolf Register at the Ministry of Magic, establishing a formal system for tracking individuals affected by lycanthropy.
  • He created the Ban on Experimental Breeding, which prohibited the breeding of dangerous magical creatures such as basilisks and acromantulas — a measure he considered his greatest achievement.
  • He worked extensively with the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau, contributing to the understanding and management of dragon populations.
  • He was awarded the Order of Merlin, Second Class, for his outstanding services to magizoology.
  • He was featured on a Chocolate Frog card, a distinction shared by some of the most famous witches and wizards in history.

History

Newt's grandson Rolf Scamander followed in his grandfather's footsteps as a naturalist and eventually married Luna Lovegood, a former student of Hogwarts and veteran of the Battle of Hogwarts.

Future

In 2017, classified documents regarding Newt's role in the defeat of the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald will begin to leak to the public. Newt will take matters into his own hands and write a book revealing the full story, disclosing that he was the first wizard to capture Grindelwald and played an active, central role in the campaign to defeat him — facts kept secret for decades.
