Ring of Dominion

Description
A black iron band crowned with a blood-red ruby that seems to pulse with an inner heartbeat, whispering promises of power to those who draw near. The metal is cold to the touch, and shadows seem to gather around it even in bright light. When worn, the wearer's eyes occasionally flash with crimson light, and their voice carries an unnatural weight of command that makes others instinctively obey.
Mechanics
Ring of Dominion (Legendary, requires attunement, cursed)
This ring grants the following properties:
- You can cast Charm Person at will without expending a spell slot
- Once per long rest, you can force a creature within 60 feet to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 18). On a failure, they are under the effects of Imperio for 1 hour (no concentration required)
- Any creature you can see that is charmed by you or under your magical control gains disadvantage on saving throws against your spells
Curse: Each time you use the Imperio effect, you must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or gain 1 point of Dark Magic Corruption. The wearer becomes increasingly obsessed with control and power, finding it harder to trust others or relinquish authority.
Attunement Requirements
Initial Test: When someone first puts on this ring without being worthy, they must make a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw (higher DC due to the cursed nature). On a failure, roll on the Rejection Table below.
Earning Attunement: This ring is fundamentally different from its siblings. After surviving the rejection (or passing the initial save), the ring does not become inert—instead, it continues to whisper and tempt. To attune to it, the wearer must:
- Commit a truly dark deed that demonstrates their willingness to dominate others
- Break the will of another sentient creature through magical or psychological means
- Sacrifice their moral principles in pursuit of power or control
- Accept 1 point of Dark Magic Corruption willingly
Once attuned, the ring glows with crimson light and binds itself to the wearer. Warning: This ring always inflicts corruption when its Imperio ability is used, regardless of attunement status.
Rejection Table (d10)
| d10 | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1-2 | Dominated: You are charmed by the nearest sentient creature (not including party members if possible) for 1 hour, compelled to obey their commands as if under the Dominate Person spell. |
| 3-4 | Power Hunger: You gain 1d4 points of Dark Magic Corruption immediately. You become obsessed with power for 24 hours and must make a DC 16 WIS save to avoid betraying allies for personal gain. |
| 5-6 | Servant's Curse: You are paralyzed for 1 minute as the ring attempts to claim you. All creatures within 30 feet can issue you commands during this time, and you obey the most recent command when you recover. |
| 7-8 | Crown of Thorns: The ring burns your finger, dealing 4d10 necrotic damage. Your maximum HP is reduced by this amount for 7 days. The burn mark remains as a black scar. |
| 9 | Mind Shackled: Your will is not your own. For the next hour, the DM controls your character's actions as the ring tests you. You're aware but unable to resist. |
| 10 | Soul Marked: You gain 1d6 points of Dark Magic Corruption and are marked by the ring. Evil creatures can sense this mark and view you as either prey or potential servants. The mark lasts until removed by Wish or divine intervention. |
This ring is one of Seylon's legendary Rings of Power, but it carries a dangerous curse born from magic that seeks to dominate rather than protect. Unlike its companion rings, this one corrupts the wearer over time, feeding on their desire for control.
