Ring of Arcane Recall

Description
A bronze ring covered in tiny runes that glow with soft blue light when magic is cast nearby, each symbol representing a different school or type of arcane energy. The metal seems to hum with residual magical power, as if it has absorbed echoes of countless spells cast throughout the ages. When worn, the wearer finds that spells and incantations come more easily to mind, as if the ring itself remembers them.
Mechanics
Ring of Arcane Recall (Legendary, requires attunement)
This ring grants the following properties:
- Once per long rest, when you cast a spell of 5th level or lower, you can immediately regain the spell slot used as if you had never cast it
- You can identify any spell being cast within 60 feet of you as a reaction, automatically knowing the spell's name, level, and caster
- You know twice as many cantrips as normal for your class, drawing upon the ring's vast repository of minor magics
Attunement Requirements
Initial Test: When someone first puts on this ring without being worthy, they must make a DC 18 Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, roll on the Rejection Table below.
Earning Attunement: After surviving the rejection (or passing the initial save), the ring becomes inert. To truly attune to it, the wearer must demonstrate their mastery of arcane knowledge through one of the following:
- Learn or decipher a long-lost spell or magical formula
- Demonstrate exceptional magical prowess in a moment of great need (casting a spell that turns the tide of battle or saves lives)
- Sacrifice a spell slot or magical ability to protect others or achieve a noble goal
- Successfully identify and counter a spell that would have caused catastrophic harm
Once the trial is completed, the runes blaze with brilliant blue light and the ring accepts the attunement.
Rejection Table (d10)
| d10 | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1-2 | Spell Burn: All your spell slots are expended immediately. You cannot regain spell slots for 24 hours through any means except a long rest. |
| 3-4 | Arcane Overload: Roll on the Wild Magic Surge table immediately. Then take 3d10 force damage as raw magic courses through you. |
| 5-6 | Memory Drain: You forget all your prepared spells (clerics, druids) or all spells in your spellbook (wizards). You can relearn/reprepare them after a long rest. |
| 7-8 | Magic Severed: You cannot cast spells or use spell-like abilities for 1 hour. Any ongoing concentration spells immediately end. |
| 9 | Feedback Loop: You immediately cast a random spell of the highest level you can cast at a random target within range (if applicable). You cannot control this and it expends no spell slot. |
| 10 | Arcane Rejection: Your connection to magic is temporarily shattered. For 24 hours, all your spell save DCs are reduced by 5, and you have disadvantage on spell attack rolls. Take 8d8 force damage from the backlash. |
