Level 7 - Child's Bedroom
Overview
A child's playroom frozen in time. Colorful ribbons hang from the ceiling like a canopy. Toys and papers scattered across the floor. A makeshift blanket fort in one corner. Against the far wall sits an enormous porcelain doll—12 feet tall—motionless, staring with glassy eyes.
The Giant Doll
Mother's Effigy - 1 Scarecrow (Large size, 60 HP, AC 11)
- Seylon's daughter made the doll to look like her mother after she died
- Animated by residual grief and magic
- Sits motionless until players approach the fort or take toys
Attacks:
- Smothering Hug: +3 to hit, reach 10 ft, 1d8+1 bludgeoning + grappled (escape DC 11)
- Lullaby (Recharge 5-6): 20 ft cone. DC 12 Wisdom save or charmed 1 minute. Charmed creatures approach doll for hug.
Tactics: Tries to "comfort" and "protect" the children (party). Grapples and restrains rather than kills. Whispers "Mother's here now" and "Let me hold you."
Toy Swarms
When doll reaches half HP, toys animate:
- 2 Swarms of Toys (use Swarm of Rats stats)
- Wooden blocks, jacks, toy soldiers surge across floor
- Shatter when destroyed
The Fort
Small blanket fort with:
- Child's journal (last entry: "Daddy says Mummy is sleeping. But she won't wake up. I made a big doll so I won't forget her face.")
- Crude crayon drawings of the family
- Hidden passage to the Hive behind fort (DC 12 Investigation)
Avoiding Combat
DC 13 Persuasion: Convince the doll that the child (Seylon's daughter) is gone. It slumps, lifeless. "I couldn't save her..."
Lullaby: Singing a lullaby (Performance DC 12) causes doll to become docile for 10 minutes.
Treasure
- Toy Wand (Wand of Magic Missiles, 3 charges) in toy chest
- Child's music box (plays mother's favorite song)
- Small portrait of Seylon's family—mother is pregnant
- 85 gp in scattered "treasure" (child's coin collection)
Atmosphere
Sad rather than scary. The doll is trying to be maternal but is a grotesque parody. Ribbons sway without wind.
