The Vane family's vault in the depths of Gringotts, far down the cart tracks. A ring rests on a pedestal at its center. When the party first saw it the place was a wreck, papers scattered across a desk and strewn over the floor, as though someone had gone through it in a hurry.
Background
Someone attempted to break into the vault around the time Callum's parents went missing, which is how Professor McGonagall came to break the news to him in Session 11 - When the Candles Went Out.
In Session 12 - The Ring in the Vault, Aurors Tobias Crane and Rafael Santos escorted Callum to Gringotts to open it. He left them in the lobby and took only Caoimhe, Finlay, and Otto down with him. Among the scattered papers was a lead from an unfinished investigation into a reclusive witch living in a cabin near Lochinver. Otto also recovered a backpack holding provisions, a magical tent, and a strange brass contraption shaped like an ancient protractor.
The two witches and the boy from the hidden library came for the ring while the party was still inside, killing the goblin escort with a Killing Curse. Otto closed his fist around the ring and ran, and the party escaped through the lobby fireplace by Floo.
