Ambrose Tuft

Description

A tired man in his fifties with thinning sandy hair, spectacles mended at one hinge, and ink on three fingers. He wears a good coat that stopped being good some years ago. He holds his Ministry badge out in front of him like a shield rather than a threat, which tells you most of what you need to know.

Personality

Sincere, decent, and completely certain he is right. Ambrose has spent twenty-two years reading Trace reports and has never in that time been listened to about anything, so being right about something large has gone to his head in a small, human way.

He is not cruel and he does not enjoy any of this. When he frightens children he apologises afterwards, which somehow makes it worse.

Background

Ambrose runs the Improper Use of Magic Office. It is not a glamorous post. The office reads the Trace, sends the warning letters, and is thought of by the rest of the Ministry, when it is thought of at all, as a place where owls come from.

Then three children stopped registering. Not intermittently, not in a wizarding household where the Trace goes vague, but completely, for eight months, in a house the Department already had questions about.

Story

The party met him at Noxley Hall in Session 16 - Order Is Mercy, when his staged raid collapsed in two rounds and Caoimhe summoned the badge out of his hand.
