Description
A brass instrument the size of a large pocket-watch, shaped something like a protractor wrapped around a small spinning glass gyroscope. Fine engravings cover its arms, tarnished with age, and the little glass orb at its heart turns and hums faintly of its own accord.
The party found it in the backpack taken from the Vane Vault, among Callum's parents' belongings. It has never reacted to a person, never pointed at anything, and never gone off in the presence of a liar. So far as anyone can tell, it simply spins.
There is a small catch on one of the brass arms. It was already flipped when the party found it, and nobody has touched it since.
What the party has noticed
Nothing they have connected to the device yet. Things have merely gone strangely since they picked it up:
- The Knight Bus did not come when they summoned it on a dark road, though the spell was cast properly.
- No owl, no warning, and no Ministry visit has followed any of the underage magic they have done outside school.
